Preparing For Labor: All the Necessities

Since pregnancy is around 40 weeks long, you will have plenty of time to start preparing for labor, birth and the joys of your newborn baby. The tips below will help you get ready for your baby’s debut:

Eat a Balanced Diet

Your body is going to need all the proper nutrients to get through labor. Getting the right amounts of things like protein–80g to 100g a day will give you energy and build a healthy baby; DHA and EPA–help build healthy brain cells and nervous system in baby; Complex Carbohydrates–keep you from getting constipated and give you and your baby the right vitamins.

Exercise Regularly

Right now, you’re super-motivated to make healthy and lasting changes in your life. Prenatal exercise doesn’t have to be grueling, complicated or boring. We rounded up our favorite workouts to help you stay active and get ready for baby. As long as you know your limits, staying active during pregnancy is one of the best gifts you can give your baby. People used to think rest was the norm and exercise was dangerous, but now we realize that in a pregnancy free of complications, the opposite is true. There are almost as many benefits from prenatal exercise as there are choices in baby names. Exercise helps reduce backaches, constipation, bloating, swelling and other unpleasant side effects of pregnancy. It helps prevent excess weight gain and may also shorten your labor and delivery. And the perks will continue. The exercise a women does during pregnancy allows her to lose weight more quickly after having the baby [if she continue to exercise].

Know the Birth Procedures

If you know what happens when you are in labor, you will get through it much easier. While everyone has a different experience in labor, knowing the basics can surely help you understand. You can learn it by watching videos of natural and C-section births.
Consider taking a birth class, in which you can learn about the stages of labor, options for pain management, breathing techniques, and medical equipment that may be used during your delivery.
